I jinxed us when I said that we couldn't miss this Fedex delivery. As it turns out, the 3pm delivery time came and went, and our passports and plane tickets never arrived. After many many phone calls, I found out that Fedex was "very sorry for the inconvenience," but they experienced some "service delays" today and my package would be delivered some time before 3pm tomorrow. After more phone calls, I found out that they don't actually know where the package is right now. For a time they thought that maybe it was still in LA. Now they are somewhat sure, but not totally sure that it's somewhere in the Oakland sorting facility. They didn't know why it never made it onto a delivery truck today. And they can't actually even look for it until the next "scan" occurs tonight, and they'll hope that it gets scanned and can be "found" among the thousands of other packages at the facility. So we'll try to get some sleep tonight and hope that it turns up by morning! Stay tuned!

Almost There
Here she is! We got her photo in September, and in four days we'll have her in our arms. We've decided to name her Makena Rebecca. We stuck with the Hawaiian name for her first name so that she and Kalia can both have Hawaiian names, and we chose Rebecca for her middle name (after my mom). Not that we're that into the meaning of a name, (as long as it's not bad!) but Makena means "abundance" in Hawaiian, in case you're curious. We're intentionally disregarding the Hawaiian pronunciation of the name and we're going with ma-kay-na. Not ma-kenna or McKenna. We're not Hawaiian, but we certainly feel closer to being Hawaiian on the ethnic spectrum than being Irish. We can't figure out how old she is in this picture, but we think maybe about 9 months old. Kalia's first question when she saw the picture: "Is my baby sister a boy?" I suppose it's a legitimate question, since her head is shaved. We're not sure how much we can infer from a photograph, but we think she looks strong, healthy, and well taken care of. We heard that babies are matched with families based on their resemblance to the adoptive father. I do see a strong resemblance in the cheeks...
Meanwhile we're busy getting ready for the trip. We leave Friday. Lots to do, but I think we've got it under control. We just have to get our passports, visas, and plane tickets. Small detail. USAA sure knows how to keep things exciting. The documents are all supposed to arrive Thursday afternoon via Fedex, so this is one delivery we can't afford to miss.
